Independent metal supplier opts for bespoke e-commerce platform
Metal Mania is an exclusively online retailer of metals who have traded successfully on eBay for several years. They had outgrown the eBay platform and approached Source Design intent on developing a website of their own to better accommodate their range of 1,500+ products. They needed a solution that could handle multiple postage configurations, and needed a bespoke facility for customers to get a quote, order and purchase metals in custom sizes.
The Metal Mania website was developed as a scaleable solution that can accommodate an unlimited number of products, with a layout and structure that resizes intelligently to match availability. Also, a variety of custom features were developed to cope with postage charging requirements and the desire to enable customers to order and buy custom sizes of metal online immediately. The on-site search facility is integrated with Google's industry-leading 'Site Search' service.
The site features a secure behind-the-scenes administration area where orders are received and processed, products added or edited and featured sales items set. Payment processing is handled by PayPal's Website Payments Pro platform as this offered the client a straightforward upgrade path from their previous eBay store.
